How to remove oil stains from shirt?

i was opening a can of corn beef but the oil splattered out and made a mess on my cardinal (red) colored shirt. how do i remove the stain. How to remove oil stains from shirt?
if you have dawn dish detergent, pour a little on the stain, rub in, and what awhile before washing. My oil stains always come out. Hot water is the best to wash it in, but I don't know if you can wash your fabric in hot.How to remove oil stains from shirt?
Goop hand cleaner, usually found in the automotive section of the store, will do a great job of removing the stain. It is made for removing oil/grease from your hands, but is does great on clothes!
Original Dawn dish washing liquid. The blue one. This gets out grease stains. Put a squirt on it nd rub it in then let it set for about 1 hr or more then wash as directed.
Hi, you can use shout or spray power from your local walmart. It does work because I have used it many times. Just put either on the stain and throw in the laundry basket until the next time you wash. It will come right out of clothes. Hope you find this helpful. Good Luck
TAKE IT TO THE CLEANERS...sounds like you love this shirt..take no chances ....
That's a toughie. Depends on how the logos are applied-

If you haven't already tried the washing process- DON'T. If you have- the stain is most likely permanently set now.

Take it to a dry cleaner. Their chemicals will either get the stain out or, dude- it's pretty much history.

Go Cardinals. Good luck. God bless. Love you!
you can try hairspray or oops 1 should work
try dawn dish soap as a pre soak

When doing an oil change can the oil filter be changed first before draining the oil?

Can the oil filter be changed before draining the oil through the oil plug? Does the order matter? Or is this going to cause all the oil in the car to go through the oil filter? I wouldn't want that to happen. When doing an oil change can the oil filter be changed first before draining the oil?
Some of these answers are scaring me a little bit. The order does not make a difference at all. The only oil that will come out by the filter, which is a good thing, is the dirty oil held up by the anti drain-back valve if it is working properly. Most, if not all, of the remaining oil will be in the oil pan. It doesn't matter where or how the oil filter is mounted. the only oil that will come out is the oil I mentioned above regardless of whether you drain the pan or not.

You will still need to drain/evacuate the oil from the pan, but the order does not make any difference if you are performing an oil change.

On most European cars (Mercedes, BMW, etc) you have to take the filter element out first because there is about a 1/2 a quart of oil sitting inside the housing that will drain down to the pan when you change it.

This link is to prove a point.

http://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_to_ch鈥?/a>When doing an oil change can the oil filter be changed first before draining the oil?
I have performed oil changes on Civics up to 2008s and I do them the same way. The only vehicles that are different are the ones with filter element housings on top of the engines because there is oil inside of the housings. Report Abuse

There's always a first time for everything or maybe others have did it before. Unless you only want to change the oil filter due to it being defective you certainly can do so as on most cars the oil sump is lower than the oil filter. Other than that the sequence is drain oil then replace oil filter as it seems to make sense.
Once you take out the Oil filter, the oil will drain out where the hole is, and usually, that'll be down your arm, or generally all over the floor. makes it a pain. Its much better to drain your oil first with the drain plug, then take off the filter. When you do an oil change, you want to change the oil, not just the filter.
I would not do that. You need to drain all the oil first. Then put the plug back in then take the filter off. Remember to lube the new filter around the top edge and just put it on hand tight. Then pour the new oil in and your done. Oil will get everywhere and you may have to put it back on again.
depends where the oil filter is. IF its on top of the machine, then no. If bottom, then sure, you might want to consider using a clamp to close the circulation of oil inside the machine.before and after the filter...
Could? yes

Smart? no

yeah pretty much what will happen is the oil will come out where you're trying to replace the filter.

So yeah, drain the oil before replacing the filter. =)
YES, drain the oil before you take the filter off!

How many fish oil pills should I give my dog?

I give my dog fish oil pills. I give her 1 a day. She is a 50 pound mixed breed. Should I be giving her more for her weight or leave it as it is?

-I give her Costco's(kirkland signature) fish oil pills. How many fish oil pills should I give my dog?
Fish oil is great for people, as well as dogs.

I don't add supplements-

I use Nutro ULTRA dog food.

It has menhaden fish oil, (One of the highest grades) it also is very rich in Omega 3s and Omega 6s

But the best part is, Nutro has been in business over 85 years...

They know what they are doing.

They have the right amounts already IN The food --so, I also don't have to buy any other products..saves a LOT of money!

I was so impressed with Nutro products, when I first started using it, I actually became a Rep!

Check with your vet---Ultra is Vet Recommended! How many fish oil pills should I give my dog?
Oh good grief. How is a little fish body oil going to make a dog sick??

I give one capsule a day to the ten lb. chihuahua I am fostering (she came to me with food allergies and very dry skin).

For a fifty lb dog, I would probably use two.

You can actually see the oil come through the dogs coat. If she gets too oily, cut back.

She was frantic for the oil at first, but I have noticed (after about 8 weeks) that my chihuahua no longer seems interested in it. Her coat is no longer dry, and the food I feed has fish in it, so I figure she doesnt need it any more.
I give my 52lb mix one every other day. She has skin issues %26amp; has to eat grain-free food now. Feeding both had helped her a great deal with her dandruff %26amp; hair loss. Sometimes I give her virgin coconut oil instead but they are more for digestive %26amp; gas problems though also helps a bit with coat.
keep it at 1 tablet a day. 50 pounds seems big, and it seems like she's not getting enough, but one a day is all she needs. over doing it could cause health problems, and you'd rather be safe than sorry.
You should give her the instructed amount that is on the bottle.
u should only give her 1 or 2 a day!! giving her too many can make her very, very sick!!!

How come vegetable oil has fat when it's vegetable?

This question has been in my head since I was a child. Please help me clear this overwehlming question. How come vegetable oil has fat when it's vegetable?
Because vegetables have fat too. Vegetable oils are more unsaturated fat, and animal fats are more saturated fat (coconut oil is one of the exceptions, it has more saturated fat than anything else). How come vegetable oil has fat when it's vegetable?
If you make a salad out of lettuce, it is healthy because lettuce has no fat. But if you make an avocado and olive salad, that has a lot of fat, because it is made out of plant products that have fat. Olive oil, corn oil, canola oil, and walnut oil are all made out of plants. Report Abuse

A fat is any chemical called a triglyceride, which has 3 carbon chains off of a glyceride backbone. Oil is a type of fat that is liquid at room temperature, because it is most unsaturated fat. Saturated fat is solid at room temperature. Report Abuse

I do hope you try to learn more about nutrition, so you can make informed choices about what to eat. Report Abuse

Actually, oil doesn't HAVE fat, OIL IS FAT!!!
Some plants have fat in them, for example avocado and all types of nuts. In general, vegetable fat is a lot healthier than animal fat (such as you'd find in meat, milk, butter, cheese), and vegetables are generally very low in fat compared to animal foodstuff. So if you stick to eating just vegetables, you're basically staying very healthy!
Because vegetables have oil in them.
Olive oil comes from olives. canola oil comes from canola, peanut oil comes from peanuts etc.............oil is fat
Because vegatable oil is a lipid

How do I work out the fluid capacity of an oil drum?

I have measured the height and I have the radius of the top, how can I establish how many litres it'll hold? How do I work out the fluid capacity of an oil drum?
it is written on the labelHow do I work out the fluid capacity of an oil drum?
Assume radius of base = r cm and height = h cm

Volume = 露 r虏 h cm鲁 = 露 r虏 h / 1000 litres
V= (h)(pi)(r^2)

Then convert units^3 to liters
Same as any 3d shape. Measure the surface area of the top (蟺r虏) and multiply by the height. Assuming all your measurements are in decimetres, that'll give you your answer (a litre is a cubic decimetre).
I agree with the answer already provided by ';Ignoramus'; which states the following:-

';Barrel volume will be the surface area of the top times its height.

So V = Pi x R^2 x H

This will give the volume in cubic units. So it is better to convert to metric in the first place.

One inch = 2.54 cm

Once you have the volume in cubic centimeters (cc), then you can divide by 1000 to change this to liters. (1000 cc to one liter)
Not wanting to be pedantic; all the previous formulaes are correct however make sure your measurements are the internal drum measurements.
Length x Width x Depth

Then to get the volume in gallons you will have to divide by 269

Also...

R^2 * Pi * H / 1728 = Volume

Hope that helps!
Barrel volume will be the surface area of the top times its height.

Volume in liters will be pi times height times the square of the radius, all measured in decimeters.
fluid capacity is the same as volume.

look up the formula for volume of a cylinder and apply it.

remember that the real volume probably holds more than

the barrel holds in practice because you do not fill a container

of almost any kind up all the way to allow for heat and impacts

and opening and closing.
V = h*(pi*r^2)

take the area of the top (pi*r^2) and multiply it by the height to get total volume in units^3. You will have to convert then. 1 cm^3 = 1mL

  • Why is there oil in my antifreeze reservoir?

I went to turn on my car and the light came on on in my 1994 vw jetta telling me to check my water. I have driven my car earlier in the day to run errands. I just had my radiator replaced 1 week ago. There is no other signs of anything else wrong with it. There is no water in my oil. No smoke coming out of anywhere. I just dont understand why it has oil. And it has alot of oil in it.Why is there oil in my antifreeze reservoir?
you mentioned that the rad was changed 1week ago, and I suspect that the oil you see is what is put in the rad while on the shelf so it doesnt corrode

if you suspect motor oil , keep an eye on the oil level to see if it drops , and see if there is going to be more oil in the reservoir after you clean it outWhy is there oil in my antifreeze reservoir?
I can't provide a definative answer. My best guess is that when the radiator was replaced, you cooling system was not properly charged, resulting in a temperature thermostat unable to function properly. This would cause an engine temp spike, loss of coolant. A temp spike can easily cause the cylinder head to warp or crack, allowing the entry of oil into the coolant. Seek an unrelated second opinion from another mechanic. Good Luck.

I know high temperatures can, but is there a general limit where oil below this temperature wont burn you?How hot does oil have to be to burn you?
I think it is a function of time and temperature. I can hold something at 140 deg F for a few seconds before I have to let go. My guess would be that if you had oil on your skin at 150 deg F you would get a burn.

What should the average investor put their money into when oil and gold start to drop?

Gold has been doing well and oil has been through the roof...but eventually the price will fall again and I don麓t want to be left holding the knife. What commodities/ securities/ investments will be increasing when oil and gold retrace? What should the average investor put their money into when oil and gold start to drop?
That depends on WHY they might drop.

Oil could easily drop on one of several reasons: (1) OPEC cashes in on the oil futures by which they are propping up the prices with right now (look at historic trading volume); (2) the 'go green' movement makes substantial gains and no longer needs the amount of oil; (3) a major economic depression means that folks simply can't buy; or perhaps most importantly, (4) the value of the dollar makes a dramatic rise (likely when the Euro is discovered to be oversold).

Gold is a tad bit more tricky. One possibility for gold to fall is an American or European recession. That could be that people need cash so this group is selling. Parts of the world would be buying, however, so it won't go down a whole lot. India and China are buying it by the boatload, so to speak. Part of that, like in China, is the store of wealth. Europe and the US tend not to monetarize gold in the same way, or to the same extent as we used to. India and oil producing arab countries will be valuing gold for jewelry and decorative purposes. If the U.S. economy tanks, India will suffer, but it will take a great deal for China and arab countries to run out of cash to buy gold. All said, if it does fall, it won't fall a great deal. If nanotech picks up, then true industrial demand will grow (remember what the catalytic converter did for the price of platinum several decades ago? look for it).

As for the oil industry, look for the diversified producers closely. Prices may drop, profits diminish, but true energy producers like Exxon, Shell, and BP will still be uniquely capable of providing lots of varied energy products at a profit. The stock prices may tank for a while, but the truly diversified and really profitable oil companies will be merely a good, discounted buying opportunity. So buy (if you can) and average down your cost basis. They will still be making big bucks if the price of oil were $10 a barrel.

As for gold, many (but not all) REAL PRODUCERS (avoid exploratory stocks like the plague if it looks like gold will be dropping) also have other important elements in their better ore grades. They could continue to dig, but likely stockpile their gold as they produce things like copper and mica (for paints and electrical equipment) in the meanwhile.

So if these things don't look good anymore, then park it in the bank and wait until things turn again. Both of these industrial sectors are immensely valuable, if you spot the most profitable and diversified producers with rich reserves. Not an easy chore ferretting that out, but that's the job investors do, right? What should the average investor put their money into when oil and gold start to drop?
When gold and oil begin falling it will be in response to a strengthening dollar.

'; Average'; investors would be best served putting away money into short term C.D.'s or Treasuries. ';Average'; investors do not trade commodities or currencies.

Those best served trading commodities/currencies always seem to be the traders themselves and not the investors.

How can you tell if a wall is painted with oil based paint?

I need to paint a wall in a room with latex paint. On the wall I want to paint, is there a way to find out what kind of paint is on it?How can you tell if a wall is painted with oil based paint?
Put some rubbing alcohol on a rag and wipe a small area. If paint comes off then it is water borne, if not, then it's oil. Having said that, you can use a primer like Benjamin Moore's Fresh Start over oil. It will stick wonderfully and allow you to paint latex over. generally not a good idea to pour oil or grease of any kind down the sink....it will clog up your drain even if you run hot water down after it. The best thing to do is to keep a container(ie. glass jar) by your stove to dispose of grease and oil.. then throw it out ....or store it in a larger container and dispose of it at the local dumpCan you pour oil down the sink drain?
I'd pour it in your neighbors garden when they aren't looking. Report Abuse

Yes, but it might clog. After you have reused it as much as you find desirable, why not feed it to the plants in the back yard?
Absolutely not, no matter what kind of oil.

You could very easily create a backup and flood your kitchen...
don't do it it will clog and only cause problems in the future
Sure, if you have a good plumber on speed dial! :)

I highly recommend you don't pour oil down the drain. I can congeal and clog your drain. You should use an empty jar or can, something with a lid, let the oil sit and become solid and throw it away.
It does the same thing to the sink. Just dump it in the trash, or under a tree.
The problem with oil is it tends to cling to the surfaces of the pipes and go rancid - which makes your drain smell bad. You can get different types of drain and disposer cleaners at most grocery stores in the cleaning products aisle. Most of them are pretty good, remember to follow the instructions on the bottle.
i suggest you get a empty can of sauce or something with a lid and once the oil gets cold pour it in the bottle that's what i do and once it gets fill i just throw it away.
No, it will clog the drain because it's so thick.
Not very much, it will clog your drain!! But, if you have already done so, run HOT water for a couple of minutes along with some Dawn or other good dish soap.
What would your local environmental officer say if they knew that you were even thinking about it ?
    never.

that would be a 'great' drain clogger.

pour it in a baggie for the trash, or go outside an

pour it way out the backyard for the critters.

It seems that the oil painting was packed before it was completely dry and that styrofoam used in the packing process stuck to the painting. The painting was packed and sent to us from a family member so it is sentimental and it is not a situation where a shipping company or a seller is to blame. We removed most of the large pieces of styrofoam without causing any damage. However, what remains are many small rice-sized pieces of styrofoam that we cannot remove from the painting without risking damage. We have no experience regarding art restoration. Although there are probably professional solutions involving special solvents, etc., we know nothing about that. We have heard of a household remedy of cutting a potato in half and rubbing the inside part of the potato along the where the styrofoam is stuck. However, we have not yet done anything and are hoping to get good advice from posting this question. Thanks in advance for any responses. We have an oil painting with small pieces of styrofoam stuck to it from shipment. Any ideas for safe removal?

Pops a dent is not a good idea, it works with dents, therefore, do not use it. I have not known any thing that can help.
Have you considered just lightly spraying it with water in a small area? If its now dry it certainly can't hurt it-I'd even go so far as to try a bit of virgin olive oil on a rag and do a test section-not to rub but just to try ';soaking';. Check with any framers that do restoration work too....
Please don't touch it yourselves. You must take it to a professional restorer. Ask your local museum or gallery for some recommendations.

What do you think would happen if Americans effectively boycotted oil and gas for a week?

It would basically have zero effect, and might even make things worse as limited oil got diverted to China and India. Oil is going up in price because the demand from the growing economies in East Asia is going up faster than new production can be brought on line. The last easy cheap oil was found decades ago (North Sea, Mexico, Alaska) new fields under development are going to be much more expensive because it's crappier oil in difficult to get to areas and often with political instability to boot.

So basically it's supply and demand, in fact we are lucky it stayed as cheap as it has as long as it has. The 1990s economic meltdown in East Asia bought us about a decade, and instead of getting ready for this day, we all bought gas guzzling SUVs. Unless there is a massive drop in world demand for oil or some almost miraculous huge oil discovery somewhere...it's just going to keep going up.

Monkey Boi would declare a state of emergency.

    Then go fishin'
    IT be wonderfull.
iT WOULD B GOOD 4 US
Unfortunately, since many people don't have viable public transportation alternatives, it probably wouldn't work. It's a nice thought, though. We have to focus on buying cars that have higher gas mileage or at least use fuel sources that aren't petroleum-based. Whoever the first company is that brings a cheaper way to transport E-85 fuel will be insanely rich.
We would run out of food. Because a boycott would include the trucks which deliver that food. We would be lighting our homes with candles. Oil and gas are used to generate electricity. Once the week was over we would all climb into our super-cab trucks and SUVs and never look in the mirror at anytime during that week to realize where the blame lies for a situation where we haven't built a new refinery in over thirty years while filling our roadway with more and more vehicles while ignoring the fact of nations like China and India doing the same.

The resultant sounds of griping would also have an effect on my hearing.
if it did work, prices would come dowm but it wont work because people would buy alot of gas the week before and week after
Bush would instantly think the war was over in iraq the instant we didn't need oil.
ever1 in the mid east would be poor and the obesity problem would be solved cuz every1 would have 2 walk
The answer is 'EVERYTHING'! It would cause a ripple effect that could disrupt the entire economy of the world.
Well, the economy would probably grind to a halt, revenue from gas taxes would drop enormously, Al Gore would be happy, and at the end of that week everybody that participated in it would probably think that it was the stupidest thing they had ever done in their adult life.
This would be an excellent thing if it could actually happen. The price of crude oil would go back down to affordable. At least for awhile.
Nothing, it will never happen. People must get to work, companies must continue to operate. It is a non-issue because it is not possible.
and then the following week you have to buy twice as much? that will teach them.
there would be cars on the freeway with no gas
Nothing. Price is dictated by the stock market. It would cause a glut , but they know you will be back eventually, They will just wait you out. They have more money than you .The poor guy that drives the gas truck may get laid off or gas station attendant, but the fat cats will manage.
    Actually...

Since oil is traded in terms of future delivery... Just a serious threat of something like that would turn the markets and probably drop the price of a barrel a by couple of dollars...

But as soon as everyone realized we are full of crap and need it more than they even think, the price would probably jump beyond what it was before the threat!
I think the keyword is in your question... ';effectively';.

I don't think that is possible.
The gas companies would lower the prices
    Not a damn thing.

Everyone would need gas real bad, the week after that.

What happens to all the space underground after we remove oil?

The world has removed billions of barrels of oil from the ground. What happens to all the space underground? Why don't we have huge sinkholes? What happens to all the space underground after we remove oil?
When it's extracted oil does not leave ';space underground'; as you are thinking of it because oil is not found in large underground caverns of vast open space, rather it is found in the inter-granular spaces in sedimentary rocks (that means it exists in-between the grains making up the rock). These spaces are quite small individually (just like sand on a beach) but taken as a whole they can hold vast quantities of liquid (water aquifers work the same way). Think of the reserves as rigid underground sponges and you've got the idea. When oil is extracted, the space can be left empty or more frequently is filled by water pressing in behind the oil. So there really aren't large voids left behind to form sinkholes.

Sinkholes form by a completely different process in areas which have underground Karst topography - areas of buried limestone caves. When these caves get close to the surface (i.e. become exposed by erosion) then sinkholes can develop as the soil on the surface collapses into the cave below ground.

What happens to all the space underground after we remove oil?
Theory has it that the earhts plates move inside of the earth causing earthquakes and volcanoes perhaps from the lack of any fluid to keep the friction at a minimum. I concur with that alot too.
There is oil underground, which you know, when there down with the oil spot they collapse it.
Once a well has been pumped dry they reverse-pump sewage into the resultant void. Or ought-to.
In some instances gas has been pumped there as a place to store it
I think that is filled with the old oil from Walmart's Tire and Lube Express, right?
i would think it fills up with water.

Bluebonnet's Certified Organic Flax Seed Oil 1000 mg. Softgels are prepared from certified organically grown flax seed. The oil is naturally squeezed from the flax seed by a process known as cold pressing. How do I chose a good flax seed supplement or oil?
    Hi Herro,

The first quality indicator is if the oil is ';Cold Pressed';. You should also know that Flax Seed oil is rich in Omega 3 and some 6; however, if you need Omega 9 as well, you should go to a fish oil.

Check out a book called ';A Prescription for Nutritional Healing';; it is a go-to book for supplements and herbs.

I wish I could give you a list of brands, etc., but it would be too long to list here. Instead, besides the book, I would recommend that you begin looking at supplements available from www.gardenoflifeusa.com.

They make premium stuff in all areas. I take the green food myself and an old friend of mine took the green food as well as other antioxidants and she has successfully survived an aggressive stage 4 breast cancer (with surgery, chemo and radiation; however, she is the only one in her treatment group still alive and / or in good health.

    Hope that helps
I can personally recommend ';granoVita'; an organic Flax oil. A number of members of my family have benefited from using this brand ( I have no connection with granoVita).

I am not sure in which country you are located, but it is available here in the UK. You can find out more on their website.
Look for cold pressed with a high lignan count. Barleans is hands down the most trusted brand. This is a link for the oil itself

What is the best way to play the spike in oil in the stock market?

I have read two reports saying its headed for $95-$100. Simply, I want to know if there are better ways than just owning shares of oil companies. What other products are out there? Thanks for your input. What is the best way to play the spike in oil in the stock market?
There are mini oil futures contracts which are 1/2 the size of a normal contract. So you only need a few grand to play. However, futures is a difficult instrument so I'd advice against it.

XLE and OIH are common symbols used to play the rise and fall of oil.

Currencies is another but that is way out of the scope of this post. Think about it, if your country is taking in a lot of dollars (oil is traded in dollars), you need to convert those dollars into the local currency so you can spend it. Naturally, the currency will go up.What is the best way to play the spike in oil in the stock market?
There is no way oil will trade over $90 by December. If you want to buy an option, don't go so far out of the money. Do some research and realize who the oil players are... OPEC is not dominant. Look at current futures. Think about what demand does as winter comes in the northern hemisphere.
Open up an options account (like options express) and buy the December calls at $90. You risk much less than an actual Futures contract which costs, for Oil, about $10,000 after margins.

You can make some real money too, for every 2 cents over $90 Oil goes, you're making $100.

What can he use that gets rid of all the oil and grease?

My fiancee works is an auto mechanic and because of his job he always comes home covered in oil, grease, dirt etc. . . His regular body wash doesn't really help and pores are clogged with oil. Does anyone know of a cleanser or body wash that's heavy duty enough to handle this. Preferably something for men since I don't think I'll be able to get him to use something with a girly scent.

Thanks! What can he use that gets rid of all the oil and grease?
Use this stuff called Gojo. It works wonders! What can he use that gets rid of all the oil and grease?
You can get lava soap, which is made from lava and is a strong soap. Also, go to a parts house like Auto Zone and get some I can't remember what it's called, but it comes in a white bucket with an orange lid. It is a soap you use to wash your hands with. It has like sand or something in it. You scrub with this stuff with no water, and then rinse off with water.
You can try something very strong such as Zest or you can use Johnson's Bodywash for adults. It works for my boyfriend
Believe it or not Dawn really works. It really does get the grease out! LOL! Someone else mentioned Lava soap, that was the type of soap I remember when I was little people using when they did dirty work like your fiancee.

What's the difference between 5w30 Diesel oil and 5w30 Engine oil?

I'm talking about chemical and physical properties. What's the difference between 5w30 Diesel oil and 5w30 Engine oil?
Diesel lubricants (oil) have more detergents and other compounds to keep the soot that builds up in it in suspension . . . Diesels tend to have some carbon blow by the piston rings and need more than gasoline engines . .

Some people will actually add a quart of diesel lubricant to their older gasoline engines, once in a while, to clean up the varnish that forms on the piston rings . . .What's the difference between 5w30 Diesel oil and 5w30 Engine oil?
If you look at the specification on a gallon of modern oil you get two sets of letters.

    One starts S and the other C, se/sf/sg/sh/sj cc/cd

The s letters refer to it's petrol engine specs and the c letters refer to it's diesel specs.

But they are infact the same oil. On modern oil cans they only print the word diesel to make you feel better when you buy it and if you look at the small print it will say can also be used in petrol engines and visa versa.

Should we nationalize Oil production for the US Military?

I am a free market conservative thinker. However, I think the US government should drill, refine and supply their own oil for military uses only (without buying it on the open market); essentially nationalizing oil for military consumption. Would this have the effect of helping to reduce the price of a barrel of oil?Should we nationalize Oil production for the US Military?
No, it is more cost effective to buy the oil needed via the market where it is being done realitively effeciently.

For the military to do it it self, would require buying land where the oil is, then training people to drill it, then you need to build an oil refinery, and have trained workers operating the wells and the refineries as well as transporting the goods. All items already being done by a private market, and as you train those workers you have to pay them enough to not head off to the private sector; or you are talking out sources all the work which really is what you are already doing by buying it on the free-market anyway.

But note when you here them talking about taping into the strategic oil reserve, As the name implys it is suppose to be just that a Strategic reserve capable of providing the oil needed to operate our military in a time of conflict should supplys become interupted. It was not intended for the politicians to make worthless attempts at disturbing free-market pricing, when there isn't enough to make any real impact on prices anyway, but makes nice little sound bite speeches to act like they can. They might cause the price at the pump to drop by a penny or two for a few weeks though, Oh but then if supplys get interupted I guess we just out of luck on filling the needs of our military.

Note at the onset of the program the gov't did manage the reserves more itself, but the program has moved even further away from that, more to fully private leasingShould we nationalize Oil production for the US Military?
Good idea. I would think that it would help a bit. Less dependency on foreign oil would drive the price down, but by how much, that I couldn't answer.
This has been tried...think 3rd World countries

Why does the oil light on my 94 Honda accord keep blinking?

It has plenty of oil in it, I'm using 5W30 oil. I want to know if it's a sensor going bad or the oil pump going bad.

I want to know what the blinking means.

4 cylinder engine. Why does the oil light on my 94 Honda accord keep blinking?
its because its a 94 honda. there is always one thing or another going ';wrong.'; either it will fix itself or u really do need to change the oil.Why does the oil light on my 94 Honda accord keep blinking?
It's a 14 year old car with super thin oil. Try 10W40. It's a Japanese disease, but often the screen on the oil pump clogs. Maybe a guart of Marvel Mystery Oil will do it.
it means change your oil within 30 miles.
Have your oil sending unit checked. Step up your oil weight to 10W30 because the car is now 13 years old.
oil pump would be the best bet...take it to a person who has a machine to put it on th verify what it is to be sure!!
If the light blinking is red, it is refering to oil pressure being low. This can be caused by general engine wear on the bearings increasing the clearances and allow the oil to flow too freely or by a failing oil pump. You can have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical guage to obtain the actual readings to rule out a faulty sensor or you can add a bottle of lucas oil stabilizer in the place of one quart of oil and if the light stops flickering you know the cause is mechanical.
Have it checked by a professional. They can hook it up to a scanner which will read a trouble code and alert what the problem is. The code reader can also clear any sensor glitches. It can also be your oil pump if you say there is plenty of oil. Make sure you check the dipstick before you turn the car on.

Why is olive oil said to be good for people? How does it work and what does it do?

What are the health benefits of Olive Oil?Why is olive oil said to be good for people? How does it work and what does it do?
Its not olive oil as such, it it polyunsaturated and monounsaturated oils that are good for you. And olive oil is high in both.

These types of oils do not raise cholesterol like saturated oils, and they do not lead to atherosclerosis (plaques on your arteries).

However they are just as fattening as every other oil. And they are fine to eat cooked.

Olive oil should be used to replace other oils like palm oil, beef tallow, coconut oil and vegetable oil (often its palm oil) which can be high in saturated fats and are often used in pre-prepared foods. It should not be added on top of these foods. Why is olive oil said to be good for people? How does it work and what does it do?

What's the difference between an essential oil and an infused oil?

And how do I extract essential oils? What's the difference between an essential oil and an infused oil?
An essential Oil is a non -oily and highly fragrant Essence which is extracted from a plant by distillation and evaporates fast. An essential oil is any concentrated, hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants.

The term essential indicates that the oil carries distinctive scent of the plant, not that it is an especially important or fundamental substance

An Infused Oil is a vegetable Oil which has been infused with the fragrance of an aromatic plant by mixing the two together and heating. The resulting Oil is delicately fragrant, very greasy and does not evaporateWhat's the difference between an essential oil and an infused oil?
In addition to what Venki said I concur. To extract oils from plants depends on the type of plant. For flowers, leaves and stems some are distilled. For Bark from woods, I forgot. But there are various ways to extract the oils but probably beyond our conventions. It's just best to buy them off the shelves ready for use.
Essential oils are produced by steam distillation of plant material (from flowers, leaves, herbs, grasses, wood, resin berries etc), or by expression of the rind of citrus fruits. They are highly volatile %26amp; despite their name are not ';oily';. They generally require specialised equipment and expertise and would be difficult to produce at home.

Infused oils are vegetable oils which are infusedwith plant material. The plant material is heated gently in the carrier oil until the volatile components infuse into it. This method can be used for any aromatic plant but at a commercial level is usually reserved for plants which cannot be distilled.

You can try producing an infused oil at home - Fill a large jar with flowers or herbs (use ones with a fairly strong scent). Fill the jar with a bland vegetable oil such as sunflower or grapeseed. Seal the jar and place it in the sun for a few weeks, shaking it every few days. Then strain and use as a massage or body oil.

What do they put in diesel motor oil that makes it different from regular motor oil?

They always say its more heavy duty. What do they put in diesel motor oil that makes it different from regular motor oil?
First off, diesels don't and are not designed to burn (to use) crankcase oil. As far as oil control goes, they're no different from a gasoline engine in that respect. In fact, I have a Perkins that has 3 compression rings and 2 oil rings. They sure wouldn't use 2 oil rings if they wanted it to use oil. Many Caterpillar engines had 2 rings (to reduce parasitic friction losses), a compression and a compression/oil ring and those engines would use oil from the get go.

A lot of diesel oils, especially those for older engines, have higher levels of zinc than do the latest generation of gasoline oils. Actually they don't have more zinc, it's just that the newest class of oils have less than before. Zinc makes things slippery and since most modern engines have roller tappets, it's no problem. Older cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors (both gas and diesel) with conventional flat tappets need the zinc to prevent cam lobe wear, especially those high reving engines with very stiff valve springs (motorcycles). What do they put in diesel motor oil that makes it different from regular motor oil?
As stated above there is a form of zinc that is used along with other additives in compression ignition engines. (diesels)

Diesels run under higher pressures than gasoline engines. One additive that helps make it ';heavy duty'; and resist the pressure, zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, can clog catalytic converters in cars, but diesels don't have a converter to clog. So they can use it in higher levels.

There are other antiwear, detergent, antifoaming and corrosion inhibitors that differ in each formula.
diesels burn oil, there designed to...so they make an oil that is designed to burn.....

now im not talking a gallon a month, only a very small amount but nevertheless they burn oil.
Different detergents to deal with the different contaminants found in a diesel engine.

On a new maple hardwood floor, should I use a oil or water based polyurethane?

I have been getting the run around on which is better. On a new maple hardwood floor, should I use a oil or water based polyurethane?
It depends on what you want. Oil-based poly is the toughest finish out there. Most resistant to damage. Water-based poly is not as tough as oil-based but it's still up there in terms of strength and resistance to damage. There are 3 things to consider when deciding which one to use. I already described the first one. The second one is drying time. Oil-based takes quite a bit longer to dry. This can result in dust accumulating on the floor as it's drying. Also, you'll obviously have to wait longer before you can walk on it. The most important reason though in deciding which one to use is color. Water-based poly is the ONLY finish on the market that will dry completely clear. There is NO OTHER finish on the market; not varnish, not shellac, not oil-based poly that will dry clear. ALL finishes other than water-based poly will have some varying degree of an amber tone to them. If your wood is not stained for example and you want it to have the exact color it has in it's raw state, use water-based. All other finishes will give the wood an amber (yellowish orange-colored) tone to the wood. I've been making furniture for years. I deal with finishes all the time. By the way... I should have said there are 4 things to consider. Water-based poly doesn't stink too much. Oil-based poly has very strong fumes, so you'll need very good ventilation if you use that one.On a new maple hardwood floor, should I use a oil or water based polyurethane?
I would suggest you use a two pot epoxy for a really hard wearing surface.
Check out Trek Plus, which has aluminum oxide. You want an experienced pro to apply it.

    http://www.lastnlast.com/CDtrekplus.html
First of all please understand that there are wide ranges of quality in both finishes. You get what you pay for and if you value your floor I suggest going with the best finish you can get. There are some water base finishes that use a catalyst and dry to a very hard and tough finish. They run about $120 a gallon. I wouldn't use anything less, they just don't hold up. Oil based finishes take longer to dry and have a very strong odor that can make you dizzy, however they can be a little cheaper. Sherwin Williams makes a moisture curing polyurethane for about $85 a gallon that many finishers swear by. I would stay away from the consumer products that are available at Home Depot.

    Good luck!!!

Is it true I can make rosemary oil from olive oil and ground rosemary?

I have to mix it and leave it in a warm place for 2 days, is what I read. What constitutes a warm place? Also, what section can peppermint oi be found in - spices or baking? I need both oils, but can't remember seeing them anywhere in the grocery. Is it true I can make rosemary oil from olive oil and ground rosemary?
You will have rosemary flavored olive oil, not rosemary oil. Rosemary oil is what is called an Essential Oil.

Do not look for them in the grocery.

If you are cooking, rosemary in the olive oil is what you want to do. Rosemary essential oil can be toxic. If you are wanting it for aromatic purposes look where they have potpourri stuff.

Look for peppermint extract where you get vanilla extract. Peppermint oil same place as above. Is it true I can make rosemary oil from olive oil and ground rosemary?
After mixing, put it in a window sill. That will give it direct light contact and begin the natural process of breaking down the rosemary into your oil.

I would check a few different spots at your grocery. 1st look in the section that has the olive oil. If not there, check the ethnic aisle (the one with the soy sauce). Then go for the spice/baking aisle. If all that fails, check with the manager.
You don't need to grind the rosemary. Just add it to the bottle or container. Let sit for a few days. The flavor/scent of the rosemary will infuse with the olive oil. Works best in a warm place, but I wouldn't sit it in direct sunlight. The olive oil will go rancid pretty quickly.

What is the appropriate way to dispose of used cooking oil?

I know some people reuse it, but I am talking about when it is time to throw it out. What is the appropriate way to dispose of used cooking oil?
I know a few ways you can do that. 1) you can dig a hole in your backyard and put the oil in the hole and cover it with dirt. 2) you can use that oil and poor some over your dogs food, did you know oil is good for dogs because it makes their fur shiney. 3)you can also put the oil in a bag and throw it in your trash can but make sure you put it in a bag that doesn't link, if oil links in your trash it will cause magets to come in your trash can. And what ever you do do not poor the oil the oil down your drain. What is the appropriate way to dispose of used cooking oil?
Do not just throw it down the sink, even if it's vegetable oil that is liquid at room temperature. Sewage treatment plants can't neutralize it %26amp; it just gets flushed into the ocean.

Place it inside a container, metal being better than plastic, a biodegradible container being best of all). Try to fill the container as much as possible. Then throw it out with the rest of the trash. It is not a great solution but I don't think there is a better alternative.
I know that some countries recycle used cooking oil. Here in the Us several parts to recycle the used oil. Trash bin or drain would be the worst ideas. If you don't have any recycling going on yet You can either dispose it at a the closest curbside or ask a local restaurant if you can use their grease bin most large restaurants do dispose their used oil bin which are later recycled.

Try to recycle yourself for deep frying for instant oil can be reused.
Never never pour it into your sink or you can get sewage backup which fccin nasty (my friend's neighbor got it). so what you do is keep an old jar and/or can to pour the oil in. Once it get old it will harden, then you can throw it away. Or just put it in the fridge to let it harden. Simple as that! (:
dont put it down the drain, it will clog your drain up. Instead, you can put it in the trash, or just dump it outside in your yard.
Poor the oil into a can, like an old coffee can, let it sit. It will become almost solid, and then you can dispose of it. It's the best way I've found. Just do not put it in your sink.
I usually pour it into a very thick newspaper. The other thing to do is find a vacant place or somewhere close that is covered in ground vines.
Pour it into a disposable container and freeze it. On trash night put it out with the rest of the garbage. No spills
use a funnel and fill up a 2 liter bottle or anything and throw it out.
mix with sand throw in to the earth.
light it on fire and throw it over the castle walls, duh.
think only one option and try it
drink it and see how long it takes for you to die of heart attack.

    pure always works best.
Pure tea tree oil is fine, it's a natural ingredient and works wonders for pimples. Allot of products for pimples have tea tree oil in them.
unless u RELY mix tea tree oil with water it will combine but if u wet the q-tip first the oil and water will just separate so its not rely diluting.

putting (only) pure tea tree oil on your face is fine it wont do anything unless u over use it on the same pimples then it will start to burn

the best way to dilute it is to mix it with emu oil cos emu oil is a natural moisturiser and its GREAT for pimples to, and helps the tea tree oil abrosb into the pimple
Hello! I've been using this method for years now, and having been the likeness of a teenage dartboard for years, I now boast a clean and clear complection. Never, EVER dilute it in paint thinner, that is just absurd; also, try not to use it in its pure form on your face. Tea tree oil is not an openly recieved oil into the ph barrier of your skin. This works best, go down to your neighbourhood's natural 'groovy' grocery store, and pick up a small bottle of Emu oil. That's right, Emu. This is one of the most receptive emollients to the human skin known to mankind. Now.. take your Emu and Tea tree oil, mix a dime sized amount of the Emu with a drop or two of the Tea tree oil, take a q tip after cleansing the skin and apply a conservative amount to the affected areas. This is a safe and all natural way to treat breakouts, it's tried and true. Goodluck

Ps. The emu oil acts as a supply of essential fatty acids (ie. Omega 3) and will help repair the skin around the breakout once it is cleared, think of it as a double threat on acne
    dip it i paint thinner

If a recipe calls for deep frying something in 340F oil, can I use a pan for a makeshift boiler?

Main concerns are wether or not it will ruin the pan and is it safe. Any tips from someone who has done the same would be awesome. If a recipe calls for deep frying something in 340F oil, can I use a pan for a makeshift boiler?
Yep, you can use a deep pan without any problems HOWEVER make sure you keep an eye on the oil as it heats, don't leave it to boil or it will burn.

I've been cooking for many years and last year I set a pot of oil on fire on my stove ~ I didn't have anything to put it out with so I had to carry it to the back door. I set the curtains on fire, burnt the carpet %26amp; narrowly escaped burning the house down. At the same time I managed to singe my hair %26amp; sustain 3rd degree burns to my right hand which was carrying the pot.

PLEASE be careful with oil on the stove ~ it can happen to anyone!!

EDIT: To test whether the oil is ready drop a very small amount of batter (I assume you will be deep frying something which is battered) in the oil. If it is ready the batter will float to the top straight away, then go crispy %26amp; golden fairly quickly. If the batter stays at the bottom of the pan with just a thin trail of bubbles upward the oil is not yet hot enough. If a recipe calls for deep frying something in 340F oil, can I use a pan for a makeshift boiler?
Pans are designed to take high heat from a stove. You will know when the oil reaches that temp (kind of low for frying, actually) when a THERMOMETER raeds 340潞F.

What is the most effective way to dilute tea tree oil for spot treatment on pimples?

I'm using a Q-tip to dab 100% pure tea tree oil on pimples and it has worked very well so far, but I want to make sure this won't cause any future problems. I'm not allergic to it or anything, but should I wet the Q-tip with water first to dilute the tea tree oil, or is using a Q-tip instead of direct from the bottle onto my skin enough? What is the most effective way to dilute tea tree oil for spot treatment on pimples?
Although it is oil, it isn't exactly greasy and I mix it with water effectively. My bottle says to dilute it 10:1 with water. It's potent stuff and can irritate your skin if you use it undiluted. What is the most effective way to dilute tea tree oil for spot treatment on pimples?
    pure always works best.

  • Why is olive oil good for you?

And if it's good for you, if I were to drink a whole lot of it, would it be really good for me?Why is olive oil good for you?
Fats that come from plants are heart healthy. Olive oil will raise your good cholesterol and help protect you from heart disease, whether it's virgin, light, or classic.

Like most things, it's in moderation. You cannot drink it..1 tablespoon has 14 grams of fat. You'll gain weight..just replace the oil you usually use with olive. Why is olive oil good for you?
Extra virgin olive oil is the best oil (how does an oil lose its virginity the title of a book once asked) this is because it is first cold pressed and retains all of the vital nutrients. These nutrients have the ability to lower cholesterol. I'm not sure if i'd actually DRINK olive oil...why don't you use it in your homemade salad, drizzle it on your rice and beans or fry it in. I do all of these things and it's got a really good flavor, you'll enjoy it.

Why is there oil filling up around the spark plugs in a 92 Honda Accord?

My Accord is loosing oil and it keeps filling up around all the spark plugs, and two of them fill up so much that the wires pop out while I am driving. What could be the problem? Why is there oil filling up around the spark plugs in a 92 Honda Accord?
all right check it out, your valve cover has 4 holes where your plug wires go from the distributor cap. from the valve cover you got tube seals. from tube seals you got spark plug tubes down to the spark plugs. your tube seals arent sealing either between your sealsa and cover or seals and plug tubes. Why is there oil filling up around the spark plugs in a 92 Honda Accord?
the gasket o- ring around the spark plug hole has been dry rotted and lost its sealing abilities causing oil to pass thru the seal and into the spark plug holes it's an easy fix, removing the old seals is the fun part. Lots of work to get them out.
what he said..the ring seals probably need replacing...

If gas hits 10 dollars a gallon due to an oil embargo this year, would you still drive?

If Isreal attacks too many people and Iran declares a embargo, and maybe others too. Isn't it time we had nationwide light rail along some or all of the interstates. If gas hits 10 dollars a gallon due to an oil embargo this year, would you still drive?
You solution is unrealistic. A project like that would take decades to implement and billions of dollars. We do not get as much oil from Iran or the rest of the middle east as everyone seems to think. Most of our oil comes from Canada and South America. That's not to say that if the Iranian government stopped shipping oil the prices wouldn't go up, because they would. I still find it hard to believe that Iran would stop shipping oil, they like money a lot more than ideals.

We should be looking at alternative transportation sources now, regardless of the amount of oil left in the planet or the price of gas. This decision will affect our children and children's children. If gas hits 10 dollars a gallon due to an oil embargo this year, would you still drive?
It is time that we had a nationwide light rail. I would still have to drive b/c where I live there are no public buses, I work 30 miles from home, and am sole income. Jobs are scarce and it is either this job or no job.
I would have to drive to work still - 15 miles of windy back roads that are too dangerous for a bike, and no public transportation at all between work and my home.

If that happened, I would get a Vespa or something.
more than 3 quarters the cost of fuel is tax nothing to do with the oil companies. If it got that expensive I would give up work and stay home living off welfare

Any good quality synthetic muligrade oil (i.e. 20-50W Mobil 1) will be fine for both petrol and desiel Renaults. If you live in a very cold climate you may need a less viscous oil (i.e. 5-35W). Chocolate and Prune Brownies

    Makes 15

    Ingredients

2 oz (50 g) dark chocolate (75 per cent cocoa solids), broken into pieces

2 oz (50 g) pitted pruneaux d'Agen, chopped and soaked overnight in 2 fl oz (55 ml) Armagnac

    2 oz (50 g) skin-on almonds

    4 oz (110 g) butter

    2 large eggs, beaten

    8 oz (225 g) demerara sugar

    2 oz (50 g) plain flour

    1 level teaspoon baking powder

    录 level teaspoon salt

You will also need a non-stick baking tin measuring 10 x 6 inches (25.5 x 15 cm) and 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep, lightly greased and lined with silicone paper (baking parchment).

Begin this the night before you are going to make the brownies by soaking the chopped prunes in the Armagnac. The next day, begin by pre-heating the oven to gas mark 4, 350掳F (180掳C), then chop the almonds roughly, place them on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for 8 minutes. Please use a timer here, or you'll be throwing burnt nuts away all day.

While the almonds are toasting, put the chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl fitted over a saucepan of barely simmering water, making sure the bowl doesn't touch the water. Allow the chocolate to melt 鈥?4-5 minutes 鈥?remove it from the heat, then beat till smooth. Next, stir in the other ingredients, including the prunes and Armagnac, until well blended. Now spread the mixture into the prepared tin and bake on the centre shelf for 30 minutes, or until slightly springy in the centre, then leave it to cool for 10 minutes before cutting into squares and transferring to a wire rack.

NO. And they won't even bake right. Oil is a key ingredient.
the applesauce works but so will mayonaisse or Miracle whip
You want to substitute something in place of the oil...try applesauce...I've heard it works good. Good Luck!
You can use butter or margarine or substitute applesauce for the oil. It tastes as good and way better for you.
Sure just replace the oil with an equal amount of Fruit Puree or Applesauce to keep it moist. Good Luck!
    applesauce can take its place
If you have applesauce or canned pumpkin...you can replace the oil with one of these ingredients. Use the same measurements.

They still come out delicious and less fat.
Use the same amount of melted butter or margarine
vinegar will replace egg and also oil ! good luck

What will happen to western society if the price of oil keeps going up?

Will all of western civilization collapse? No more transportation? Would we end up going back 200 years in technological development? What do you think? What will happen to western society if the price of oil keeps going up?
Alternative fuels and battery-powered cars already exist. They just weren't cost-effective. Guess what? They are becoming more and more viable every day the price of oil rises.

Gasoline had a good run when you think about it. Now, we'll evolve to use something else. What will happen to western society if the price of oil keeps going up?
why do you even think that only western civilization is affected? it is a global phenomenon. remember people in asia use petrol as well.

price of oil going up is largely a result of speculation. so it would have to go back down to a more reasonable rate sooner or later. price increases must be supported by actual demand and when the ';speculated'; demand finaaly collapses prices will fall back

however before this happens my personal belief is that alternative energy sources would be ';forced'; into usage and instead of going back into the stone age i think humans will invent and innnovate to use other methods of transportation. for instance cars now can run on compressed natural gas or electricity....

so who knows what scientists or inventors when faced with such a pressing issue could come up with
This one is pretty simple... we will adjust and prosper. It will force us to innovate and as much as it sucks right now, in the long run everything will go back to equilibrium.

Or maybe I am totally wrong and we will fail misereably, but I doubt it.

What is the oil capacity of a 1970 johnson 60hp outboard?

I just got the boat and motor recently and want to tune it up the best I can. The oil in the lower unit is a white milky color and needs to be changed. Also, if anyone has any more helpful tips and tricks I am open to suggestions. What is the oil capacity of a 1970 johnson 60hp outboard?
First, make sure which type of shift system your outboard is. This can be done by taking your outboard's serial number and model number on the transom plate to an OMC dealer or OMC service shop.

If it is electric shift, then you need to get a different gear oil specified by OMC to use. Do NOT use regular lower unit gear oil on an electric shift outboard.

If it is regular mechanical shift outboard, then fill will regular lower unit gear oil.

Since you have leaking in your gearcase, first buy replacement felt washers for your drain and vent plug.

I might be repeating a few things already mentioned, but there are some important bits of info that need to be stated.

ALL lower units with one vent plug and one drain plug, regardless of the model or type is filled from the drain plug hole at the bottom. I recommend you use a lower unit pump for the job, it makes this go very fast and much easier.

Remove the old felt washers on the vent and drain plugs and put the new felt washers on the vent and drain plugs.

NEVER FILL from the vent plug hole, this leaves air in the lower unit, and air in the lower unit is a VERY bad thing.

Start and keep pumping the lube in the drain plug hole until the lube runs out of the vent plug hole, make sure it comes out strong enough to cover the entire hole, so air cannot enter the lower unit. As soon as that happens, put the vent plug in the vent plug hole. Put it on snug but don't overtighten.

With the vent plug installed, you now do not have to be lightning quick to get the drain plug installed. However, get the drain plug in your hand ready to install. As soon as you remove the gear lube bottle or (hopefully) the tip of the pump, put the drain plug back on quickly. Again, put it snug but don't overtighten.

Finally, to make sure you do not have a serious leak in your lower unit, you need to take it out for 1 or 2 outings. Immediately after this, you need to unscrew the drain plug enough to get a small but significant sample of the gear oil.

If its milky again you have a bad seal somewhere, I'd guess the drive shaft seal or if a split gearcase, the main spagetti seal.

If you pull your lower unit or try to replace the impeller, get a manual for this. You might get it right on by taking it slow and guessing a few times, but its best to play it safe and get the service manual for your outboard's model and year. What is the oil capacity of a 1970 johnson 60hp outboard?
turenorth hit it on the head. Just make sure that if it's an electric shift, as I think that one may be, use type C lubricant or ATF, not standard gear oil. I know from years of experience that automatic transmission fluid is a good alternative to Type C, and a third the cost. OMC used to dye it blue and call it type C lube.

After you've had a chance to use the boat a time or two, change it again and make sure you don't have milky oil. This would indicate that more water has come in, and you may have a bad seal on either the prop shaft or the drive shaft. Also, be very careful to watch the temperature and/or cooling indicator stream. If need be, drop the gearcase and replace the water pump impeller. It's $30 an an hour or two to do it, depending on how handy you are, but a bad pump will destroy your engine.
Drain the old gear lube by opening both of the vent holes. Get yourself one of those pumps that will hand pump the new lube into the lower unit. Buy a one quart bottle. Put the pump in the lower hole leaving the upper hole open. Pump and pump and pump until lube leaks out the top. Put the top screw in, now get ready to move quick, remove the pump from the lower hole and replace the screw quickly. You are good to go. And! Don't forget the little teflon gaskets on the vent screws.

    Good luck
If my memory serves me right , it's 20 oz. I remember you had to buy 2 tubes, and didn't use it all. OMC used a type C hydraulic oil in this unit.

How can I oil the barrel of my dryer?

When I bought my home, it came with a washer and dryer, so I do not have the owner's manuel. It is a GE Profile, probably about 10 years old or so. It has recently become very squeaky while running and I don't want to take anything apart without having some idea of what to look for and where to put oil. I also dont know what kind of oil to use.How can I oil the barrel of my dryer?
It could just be a drum wheel. call an appliance tech. How can I oil the barrel of my dryer?
The drum rotates on rollers. That's what is squeaking. On most dryers, you can remove the front and gain access to the rollers. The bearings on the drum are most likely ';sealed'; and do not require any service.
**NOTE** You never want to use an oil on a appliance that heats up, like a dryer.

It will draw in dust, and it can be a fire hazard.

The answers here are correct, about the bearings, no matter what the ';thumbsdowns'; say.
Ahh maybe the rollers but also see if you have a center support bearing on the rear of the drum. I think you do. the Unplug the dryer, lift the top and look behind the drum to see if there is a bearing support the back of the drum. If so you can remove it and replace. THe drum as to come out along with the belt and front of the dryer. It sounds bad but it really isn't.

Replacement part is about $15 bucks.

    Eric
You need to replace the bearings. don't do this your self buy a new unit or pay the price to fix it correctly

  • How much cooking oil should I use in cooking?

Like stir frying, or cooking really thinly sliced meats. Not deep frying. I am assuming the pan has been coated with nonstick/teflon. I use the size of a canadian dollarHow much cooking oil should I use in cooking?
That sounds about right as long as it can just coat the bottom of your pot you should be find. Loonie Toonie amounts sounds good because that's about 1 - 2 TBSPS.How much cooking oil should I use in cooking?
That depends on how much fat you want in your lifestyle... and also how much food and what type of food you're cooking.

For example, you'd use a lot more oil if you were preparing a stirfry only for yourself versus preparing for a family of 4-5.

You might use more oil if you weren't concerned about keeping the fat in your diet low or if you'd hadn't already eaten a number of fatty things that day.

(I try to keep my fat low, so I use as little as possible, and will often even pour in a tiny amount, then wipe it around my pan with a tissue to coat everywhere but thinly... OTOH, I seldom use non-stick pans because of health concerns with them, but do for making omelets... otherwise ';well-seasoned'; cast iron skillets work best for me.)

Theoretically, a non-stick pan shouldn't require *any* oil, so you're using it more for the flavor and extra crispiness it gives the food... but non-stick pans do vary in the quality and longevity of their coatings so after awhile, esp. with a less expensive pan, you'd probably need at least a bit. (Some people who really need to avoid fats will even ';saute'; mostly with water after just a tiny bit of fat, and that should work even more easily in a non-stick pan.)

Also, some foods (like meats, poultry, fish) already contain fat (in different amounts), so they'll brown better and cook crisper without adding oil than foods which contain no oil (veggies, etc.)... just another thing to think about.

Generally though, because fat and friend foods just taste so good!, cooks will use as much fat as they feel they can get away with in every situation, unless they don't know about the health risks, or don't care, etc.

    Diane B.
When stir frying one ought to use about 2 Tbs(1/8 cup) but that's if one is using a relatively large skillet. If a medium skillet, use a bit smaller amount, about 1-1 1/2 Tbs. If a small one use 1 Tbs or less.
Use as much as you want, just make sure it's olive oil or another kind of good oil. Olive oil isn't poison like some of the other oils.

Then just use what you feel comfortable using, that's the important part of cooking I think.
I'm guessing that you mean the dollar coin and not the dollar bill.

The amount you're using is sufficient in most cases that you speak of, and the pan doesn't need to be non-stick. In the case of a wok or iron frying pan, however, you'll want to make certain the surface has been ';seasoned'; first. This means you need to have coated the surface with cooking oil and heated it, then wiped it clean with a paper towel. You need to do this a few times with a new pan or wok before using it. And never use water to clean a wok or iron pan.
if that much...you just need enough for the veggies/meats not to stick. (if you're using teflon coated pans)

How much and how often should i apply vitamin e oil to my scars?

Within the past 7 to 8 months I've had carpal tunnel surgery on my left and right hands. These surgeries have left me with two gnarley scars [one on each palm]. I've read on numerous sites that vitamin e oil will help to fade and even help to make scars disappear. But I don't know how much or how often to apply it. If you find a reliable site please tell me. Thanks! How much and how often should i apply vitamin e oil to my scars?
Three or four or more times a day...rub it in a circular motion, then back and forth, then up and down.

THen use a cream based on bee's wax.

I use vitamin E oil on all my surgical scars ( 27 surgeries)

Takes about a year for the scars to fade a lot, then as more times go by the scars are actually hard to see.

I did have four carpal tunnel surgeries, one each hand to release and one each hand to get rid of scar tissue.

The scars are not readily visible now.How much and how often should i apply vitamin e oil to my scars?
Vitamin E helps a great deal at fading scars! You can also try Palmer's brand scar serum which I am currently using. These are great products to use but you must use them extensively, probably about 3 to 4 times a day to start seeing success. I have a big scar on my leg (had 14 stitches) that I have been applying the scar serum to, along with tanning on the beach and it has faded dramatically. It may take a while to fade so don't expect to see results right away!

call a local gas company they do it all the time here in Oklahoma. But they want to keep what they earn and give you some crumby rights. Like my friend and neighbor, they promised to maintain the road and she gave them an acre of ground and they come flying up the road with big trucks to her place and dump some gravel once in a while.

Then this other guy says ';no way'; He makes a deal with them they build a asphalt road and maintain a separate one for his driveway. He gets free gas for life. And they clean up the site after wards and all he said I want to see is an ok Christmas tree. [well pump]

So don't just give them the land or sell them an acre of cheap land. Negotiate. The days of getting a percentage is gone unless you have the money to put in your own well.
contact one of the few oil companies own by vice president dick cheney ....www.whitehouse.gov or www.vpdc.org

What kind of oil does a submersible pump needs???

I need to repair a submersible pump but i don't know what kind of oil do i have to fill inside...anyone can help? What kind of oil does a submersible pump needs???
sump pumps and older oil cooled submersible pump motors have 3gs refrigeration oil in them...you can get this at any pump repair shop or refrigeration suppliers such as johnstone supply or ww grainger..be sure that you do not fill it full as it needs room to expand as it get hot...about 3/4 full will doWhat kind of oil does a submersible pump needs???
Submersible pumps are a sealed unit any lubrication should be done by a certified repairman for the manufacturer.
I assume you are talking about a submersible well pump or sump pump, pumping water ?

I think these units have no provision to be oiled by the user. Bearings etc. are likley prelubed sealed units.
If you mean a water pump they do not take any oil they are a sealed unit. If they had an oil port then it would stand to reason that you would get oil in your water
IF it is a submersible well pump you may want to get professional help with the well. MANY oil filled submersible motors had PCBs in the oil. Especially if it is a ';two wire'; motor. If the oil leaked out of the motor while in the well you very well could be drinking PCBs without knowing it. Professional well service techs that were practicing in the 80s and early 90s should be aware of this problem as there was much written about this subject.

I suggest that you use nothing in a well that isn't NSF approved.

What is required to use a solar water heater with oil fired hot water based board heat?

I am looking to get this done professionally, but I would be interested to get tips from anyone who has such a system or has set one up. If you send heated water to the oil burner and reduce the amount of work the burner has to do, will it still work? Is there a better way without tearing out my existing heating system? What is required to use a solar water heater with oil fired hot water based board heat?
The link I gave is to help you understand how it works. This is a do it yourself site but having a pro. do it would be a good idea unless you love this kind of thing.

The solar system will have its own loop with antifreeze and a heat exchanger will allow it to add heat to your current boiler system. This will reduce the amount of energy that has to come from the oil. You are in a good position for this since you already have the hot water base board heat.

Sorry that link is not very good since it was just for hot water heaters. What is required to use a solar water heater with oil fired hot water based board heat?
Stay away from any kind of oil heat. The cost is going through the roof.

How many fish oil pills should I give my dog?

I give my 50 pound mixed breed dog 1 fish oil pill a day. Should I give her more for her weight or keep it as it is?

Thanks. How many fish oil pills should I give my dog?
A 50 pound dog would do fine with 2 capsules a day. Fish oil is a healthy fat and dogs do quite well on fairly large doses since dogs can handle a higher fat diet than humans. My dogs get quite a bit of salmon oil and thrive on it.
