What percentage of petrol do I put in my heating oil to stop it going thick in cold weather?

Hi

I live in the mountains in Spain where they do not put an additive in heating oil to stop it going thick and unusable in cold weather. I have been told that an addition of petrol can stop the effects of the cold weather. What percentage of petrol do i use to cover temperatures down to -5C?

Also the same question for diesel in my car? What percentage of petrol do I put in my heating oil to stop it going thick in cold weather?
There are special heating oil additives for this and you should buy them rather than adding petrol into the oil. There's a reason why they don't put cold weather additives - they are usually not needed in the warmer climes of Spain, unless you live up in the Sierras. But if you really need it, you could try aronol oil additive.

You should not need diesel additives for cold weather for your car. They are already added by the oil companies.

You could also add paraffin K-1 to the home heating fuel tank. This will lower the ';freeze'; point, as the freeze point for K-1 is about -20F. K-1 will burn successfully in just about any home heating fuel oil furnace, but the downside is the expense (K-1 has a 20% to 30% higher cost than oil) and fewer BTU's than the same amount of home heating fuel oilWhat percentage of petrol do I put in my heating oil to stop it going thick in cold weather?
what is the oil for the car engine for heating in your home need more details . you can place petrol in your diesle and it will still run as lon as it isnt totally petrol needs to be at least 70% desel i have put petrol in a diesel countless times and just filled up with desiel and its bene ok in fact wen a diesel fails on its emisions test for the uk mot a lot of garages place petrol in as its a lot cleaner
Never add petrol to heating oil (gas-oil or diesel) the additive added to heating oil in cold climates is petroleum or paraffin and is supplied ready mixed from your heating oil supplier, on asking.
your heating oil is #2 diesel just add 1/3 #1 diesel....never ever add petrol to diesel. irreversible damage WILL occur. also your car runs on #2 also so do the same for it.
Petrol is not the answer. Most Oils today have an anti thickening agent in them. To make sure phone the Oil Company
It is not Petrol.

Never put Petrol in a diesel car even in small proportions
get a block heater

  1. Heating oil is a highly inflammable liquid petroleum product with low viscosity and mainly used as fuel in furnaces in buildings or boilers used for residential and commercial purpose.
